ABOUT THE EVENT:
The 24th Annual Onion Man Triathlon will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2017. The Olympic Distance race held at the base of the Blue Mountains is a 1.5K lake swim, 40K out and back bike, 10K out and back trail run by the lake and on bike path though Rooks Park.. The race will be timed using the ChampionChip timing system by AA Sports, Ltd. We have opened up 25 spots for an AquaBike division this year. It is open for individuals or two person teams. Once you cross the bike finish mat at the bike entrance of the transition your race is ompleted (You will not be crossing the main finish lane). Awards will be given out to the top 3 male and top 3 female finishers and the first place overall team. No age group awards will be given out.
Entry fee is $75.00 for individuals, $130.00 two person teams and $195.00 for three person teams. All competitors will receive an FuelBelt Gel-Ready Race Number Belt. Field is limited to 300 participants, so register early. There will be a $10.00 additional fee after April 20 2017 if spots available. No day of race registration and no wait list available if race fills.
This is an exciting and challenging race open to team competitors as well as individuals who like to power it on their own. We wish all of you a safe race and encourage you to get out there and swim hard, ride strong, run fast and most of all, enjoy yourselves!
The 1.5 km Swim: The Triathlon begins at Bennington Lake where competitors will begin with a 1.5 km (2 loop)swim. Water temperature will be approximately 65-68 dgrees. Wet suits will be allowed.
40 km Bike: The bike course will be an out and back scenic ride. Bikers will head down Reservoir Rd. from the lake turning right on Tausick Way. Turn right again on to the Walla Walla Community College driveway and follow that through the campus to Isaac’s St. You will turn right on Isaacs which will become Mill Creek Rd. you will then stay right onto 5 mile rd to turn around point with a short out and back on Scenic Loop Rd on your way back to the transition area located at Bennington Lake.
10 km Run: The run will be a moderate course on the bike path through Rooks Park with no major hills.
AWARDS AND POST RACE FESTIVITIES:
A post race meal is included with the entry fee. EXTRA meal tickets for family/friends will be available for $10 during the on-line registration process, at packet pick up, and at the meal. The meal will be served following the race.
Awards are given out to the first overall male and female winners and the top 3 male and female finishers in each age group(excluding the overall male and female finishers). The age groups are divided into 5 year increments. There will also be awards given in the Clydesdale and Athena categories. The team age groups are total ages of 105 and under and 106 an over. ChampionChip Timed. AquaBike awards will be given out to the top 3 male and top 3 female finishers and the first place overall team.
PACKET PICK UP:
Packet pick up will be held Saturday, May 20, at Bicycle Barn Cycle and Fitness, 1503 E. Isaacs, from 4:00 -6:00 p.m. and also Sunday, May 21, from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. at Bennington Lake, the starting point of the race.
Pre-Race Meeting and Start:
The pre-race meeting begins at 8:30 and the race begins at 9:00 a.m.

Coming from Hwy 12, take Walla Walla Community College/Walla Walla Regional Airport exit, (Hwy 12 East turn right on Tausick Way. Hwy 12 West turn left on Tausick Way) Turn left on Reservoir Road and follow the signs to Bennington Lake.
