The Triple Threat series is comprised of three different triathlons, the Black Hills Triathlon in June, the Lakewood SummerFEST Triathlon presented by St. Clare Hospital in July and JBLM’s Deuce’s Wild Triathlon in August. Athletes who complete all three triathlons will have the chance to win a very valuable prize. All three events are USAT Sanctioned. ABOUT THE BLACK HILLS TRIATHLON
The Black Hills Triathlon in Lacey is a premier, USAT sanctioned, sprint distance triathlon organized by a team of event specialists who are passionate about providing a safe and well-organized race of the highest quality. As a community event, we are proud to have the support of both business owners and residents and we are dedicated to representing our community in a positive manner. Our race is uniquely suited to both the beginning triathlete and the seasoned competitor and features a ½ mile swim in beautiful Long Lake, a 17 mile bike ride and a 3.1 mile trail/road run. We offer a covered transition area, incredible volunteers and amazing swag. We look forward to seeing you on race day!
Registration is capped at 350 Triathletes and 60 Duathletes and our race has sold out the past two years so sign up early to ensure your spot!
NEW FOR 2017:
Sprint Duathlon: The Black Hills Triathlon team is offering a duathlon along with their sprint triathlon race this year. The race will be capped at 60 people and accommodate 2 person relay teams. The course includes a .8 mile run, 17.3 mile bike and a 3.1 run. The first run segment will start at the lake and run through Long Lake park trail and then proceed into the transition area. The bike and second run segments will follow the triathlon course. All duathlon athletes will adhere to USAT Rules at all times. Prizes will be awarded to overall and age group top finishers. Start time of the race will follow the 2nd wave of the triathlon. More detailed information will be provided prior to race day.

Individual & Relay Team Competition
RELAY TEAMS: Select a team captain, pick a name and register (one person initiates registration and pays the entry fees). The registration company will email the other team members who will be given access to sign appropriate waivers. Each member of the team will receive a technical t-shirt, race bag, and finisher's medal. All members of the team must be present at packet pickup, with ID. The packet will contain one run bib, bike, and helmet number for each participant. The team will be given one timing chip that must be passed from the swimmer to the biker and then to the runner. There will be a designated area in transition to pass off the timing chip so the next stage of the relay can proceed.
No day of race registration
No refunds or transfers of registrations
Price includes tax but does not include registration fee and USAT one day membership fee

USA Triathlon and Sanctioning and Insurance:
This race will be conducted with the highest professional standards and race support to ensure athletes are safe and supported. This race is sanctioned and insured by USA Triathlon (USAT) and requires all participants to obtain a one day USAT membership ($15) or show proof of annual membership. Black Hills Triathlon will be draft-free and have USAT certified course officials to ensure a safe and fair event. The swim course will have Red Cross certified lifeguards. The bike course will have certified flaggers or Thurston County Sheriff at all major intersections.
A USA Triathlon sanctioned sprint distance triathlon, the course is challenging and beautiful. While being a favorite race for seasoned competitors, the BHT is organized in such a way to make any first time triathlete both comfortable and successful.
- 1/2-Mile SWIM takes place in Long Lake (*)
- 17.3-Mile BIKE course, is an open loop that begins at the exit of the Thurston County Fair grounds
- 5k loop RUN course. Approximately half of the course is on the shoulder or sidewalk of an open road and half is on trails or paths that are within parks and closed to traffic. (*) Lake temperature is expected to be in the mid to upper sixties. We do recommend that participants wear a wetsuit and WetSuitRental.com is a great source to rent from. Sunday June 25, 2017 @ 5:30am - Packet pickup by reservation only - please email email@example.com to request a Sunday packet pickup.
Note: All packets, including Relay Team packets, must be picked up in person. We will not release a packet to a friend or spouse. If you are unable to make it to Saturday packet pick up, you will have the option to reserve a race day morning pick up. Also note: there is no day of race registration.
Athletes must show picture ID. Athletes must show current USAT membership or pay a one-day fee of $15.00 (when you registered online, you will have been given the option to purchase a one day membership). Athletes are only allowed to pick up their own packets and packets will not be given to friends, spouses etc. No exceptions!
Pre-Race Swim Clinic: Friday, June 23rd from 6pm-7pm @ Long Lake Park
Race Day Schedule:
The race has two transition areas.The swim begins at American Lake Park 9222 Veterans Drive SW 98499, which is Transition 1. Transition 2, where athletes place their bikes and begin the run, is at Fort Steilacoom Park 8714 87th Ave SW, 98499. Racers place their belongings for the run at transition 2 (Fort Steilacoom Park), and can either take a free shuttle, or ride their bikes to American Lake Beach Park where the race begins.
- 5:30am - Transition opens
- 7:00am - Mandatory pre-race meeting at the lake near the swim exit
- 7:20am - RACE WAVES BEGIN
- 10:00am - Awards Ceremony in Heritage Hall
